Managing Menus

Your site has a Main navigation menu — which populates the primary, horizontal navigation with drop-down menus, as well as the sidebar navigation — and a Secondary Menu — which appears adjacent to the search box. You can edit and/or reorganize the items within these menus.

Edit your Main navigation menu

  1. Select Structure > Menus > Main navigation from the administration toolbar.
  2. Click Edit in the Operations column of the menu item you want to edit.
  3. From here, you can change the title, path or parent link for the menu item.
  4. Click Save at the bottom of the page.

Rearrange the menu items

  1. Select Structure > Menus > Main navigation from the administration toolbar.
  2. Find the menu item you want to move, and put your cursor on the drag-and-drop handle
    crosshair.
to the left of its title.
  3. Click and hold, then drag the menu item to the new location and release.
  4. Click Save at the bottom of the page.

Add a new menu item

  1. Select Structure > Menus > Main navigation from the administration toolbar.
  2. Click Add Link.
  3. Enter the Menu link title.
  4. Enter the Link.
    1. For a link to a page within the site, start typing the title of the desired page; the look-ahead menu will populate with pages that match the title you are typing — find and select the desired page. Alternatively, you can enter the page’s path alias (e.g. /path/to-the/page).
    2. For an external link, enter the URL (e.g. https://www.duke.edu)
  5. Select where in the site hierarchy you want the new menu item to appear using the Parent link drop-down. Select the menu item under which the new link should be placed as a child item.
  6. Click Save at the bottom of the page.

Note: To edit or reorganize the Secondary Menu, simply follow the same steps above, but in Step 1 select the Secondary Menu instead of Main navigation.
