Each site managed by Trinity Web Support includes the web accessibility checker Editoria11y Accessibility Checker. When logged in, users with an editing role will see an icon in the lower-right corner of the page which indicates whether or not the page being viewed includes any accessibility issues or potential issues.
A blue circle with a check mark indicates there are no issues. A yellow circle means there may be an issue; the number within the yellow circle indicates how many issues or potential issues exist on the page.
If you see a page with a yellow circle, click the circle to highlight on the page where the issue(s) exists; hover over the yellow circles with question marks to show the issue that has been flagged. For long pages, you can click the First » button to jump to the first issue on the page:
If multiple issues exist, this button will then read Next » which you can click to jump to the next issue:
When you hover over a yellow icon where an issue has been flagged, you will see details about the issue and steps to fix the problem:
In the example above, the accessibility checker has flagged a skipped heading: the first heading on the page—the page title—is a heading one, so the next heading on the page should be a heading two instead of a heading three.
Once all of the issues have been fixed, the Editoria11y icon at lower-right will change from yellow to blue, with the check mark indicating there are no issues to report.
Note that sometimes an issue will be flagged that needs to be checked manually. For example, when a video is embedded on the page, Editoria11y will flag it with a reminder that the video needs to have captioning. These indicators can be dismissed by clicking the “Hide alert for me” or “Mark OK for all users” button in the issue dialog.
